Hi fellow EVICTians

I hope everyone has had a good break :)

I am guessing that lots of us are thinking about the start to the new school year and thought it could be a good idea to start a discussion thread where we could share some useful sites we have found over the holiday break.

As a first contibution I offer The World of Goo. Check out the Wikipedia article for a quick intro...

World of Goo is a puzzle computer game with a strong emphasis on physics

or read the Ed Tech for Science blog entry from Jan 12th

or watch this youtube video trailer

Looking forward to hearing about your newest discoveries

Hi Jean and others
Welcome to the new school year!
Thanks Jean for the interesting sites you mentioned.
Not being in a classroom I may not be able to add as much value as others but I thought I'd have a go at continuing the thread.
Over the holidays I've really got into Flickr. (yes, I know Paul Reid told me how good it was a long time ago?) Since I also have a new dslr camera I've found all sorts of groups that I can be part of, even a free photography class. But for kids the facility to be able to search by keyword for photos seems very powerful. Students would most probably enjoy this innovative way of searching photos. http://www.taggalaxy.com/

Is there anyone who hasn't searched the Google Earth Gallery to find content that might assist them to involve students in a more interactive, rich environment? http://www.google.com/gadgets/directory?synd=earth&cat=education

A couple of other links I've come across lately are:
http://www.tutpup.com/ A educational games site
And an online jigsaw with a difference - it moves! http://www.brl.ntt.co.jp/people/hara/fly.swf

I was at a school the other day exploring K-12 syllabus resources with teachers and someone found some info on what to teach kids to help them succeed in the Naplan. Do you think I can find the page again? If you know this link I'd appreciate it and I'm sure others would if you post it here.

Cheers
Judy

I found the NAPLAN Planner - could be invaluable to teachers in years 3,5,7 and 9. It gets quite specific, listing what you need to cover and when, as well as teacher support and student activities.

Take a look: http://k10syllabus.det.wa.edu.au/associated/private/planner/index.html

Not ICT I know but an online resource for teachers.
cheers
Judy
