R.I.P SLICT - Long live EVICTS
I don't know about you but I breathe easier here than in SLICT/SOCS online space.
EVICTS puts us/you in the box seat and gives us/you much more opportunities to exchange information and support each other. A quick run of the main features we will likely to use the most:
Forum
No news here. Much like the old SLICT forum but you can now attach up to 3 rather than a single file plus you can tag entries (more on tags another time).
But wait - there is SOOOOOO much more here than the old SLICT forum... (and pretty useful stuff too)
My page
That is your baby and you manage it any way you like. You can set up all sorts of things: themes, applications, notifications, feeds, photos etc etc. Best to have a play really and if stuck give me or your friends a shout. Did I say friends ...?
Friends
What would a social network be without friends? You can add people as friends to easily send them all a message, see what they are up to, share stuff, chat etc... plus you get to see how this phenomenon called 'social networks' really works (for a Plain English clip see the 'Videos' section. Did I just say videos....?
Videos
How many times were you looking for that little inspirational, or provocative, or tutorial, or funny, or...video clip and just could find the bloody thing? We'll we can easily pool resources here and either upload (some monthly traffic limits apply so please no Baz Luhrmann here) or embed (better option, will show how to do that - if you don't know maybe ask a friend?). What about photos? Did I just say that....?
Photos
You can either upload photos straight from your computer (bit like attaching an email really) or you can link them with Flickr. "'Err Flickr?" (we'll get to that...if stuck - ask your friends and they will tell you Flickr has nothing to do with Hogan's Heroes). Tell you...maybe through a chat?
Chat
One of the niftiest little tools. Whenever you are online, ppl (that is chat for people, LOL) will see your icon (best to get that thumbnail nice and pretty) as being online. You can either invite people currently online to a Private chat by clicking on their thumbnail and select 'private' ( a nice little backroom strategy) or stay in the Main chatroom, seen to all. You can get a whole group chatting...Did I just say group?
Groups
Groups can be formed within EVICTS, according to whatever the interest. These will emerge as we go along, more info later. For example, will probably have a group called "Primary schools', or 'Web 2.0', or 'Moodle, or 'IWB' and so on.
As we go along, we will gradually draw on the knowledge of each other and other sources well beyond our shores .We are in many ways re-inventing the wheel here but we are keeping things local and manageable before people start branching out with greater confidence.
Oh, nearly forgot... Events
It will be paramount to meet in flesh from time to time. Online is fine but nothing replaces a chat or a glass of wine live. We'll announce and RSVP events online, then meet and celebrate or commiserate of simply chinwag in person whenever we can.

Thanks so much, Tomaz. I feel inspired to bite the bullet next year (if/even if I don't get the ICT coordinator position) and branch out a little with some help from my 'friends'.
It was great to see you all last week.
Let's get started. Who needs to depend on DET anyway?? Who CAN depend on DET anyway?!
